Former Husker Rex Burkhead placed on injured reserve by New England Patriots

Former Husker running back Rex Burkhead was placed on injured reserve Wednesday by the New England Patriots.

Burkhead left Sunday night's loss to Detroit after injuring his neck. The Patriots have not announced the extent of Burkhead's injury.

Burkhead had 24 carries for 86 yards this season and three catches for 31. He signed a three-year contract with the Patriots during the offseason worth $9.75 million that included $5.5 million guaranteed.

A sixth-round draft pick in 2013, Burkhead is in his sixth NFL season. In 12 games last year for the Patriots, Burkhead had 287 rushing yards, 300 receiving yards and eight total touchdowns. He spent the first four years of his NFL career in Cincinnati.
