1. I really liked the way Scott Frost handled the story of the two Huskers who were admitted to a Lincoln hospital for rhabdomyolysis. Frost took ownership and explained the situation in detail. Now, move on. Too many times coaches or athletic officials send out a short statement that doesn't really say anything and it just raises more questions. NU officials could have confirmed this last Friday or even Monday, but I'm glad the head coach took time to clear this up. Hopefully that's how all these things will be handled.
2. Anytime two student-athletes are sent to the hospital, it's a concern. This looks like a case of players not being used to the type and pace of a workout. Those players may have been trying really hard to make an impression and not look weak in front of their new coaches. Something tells me this staff is going to be a big adjustment for the Huskers. I think most Husker fans are on board with dialing it up a few notches. Certainly, coaches and trainers will keep an extra eye for those who look like they're in trouble.
3. There's a lot of buzz around Husker Hoops. Last night's win over Wisconsin was big because it wasn't a loss to Wisconsin. That's just where the Huskers are in this league. You expect the Big Ten to be an obstacle on the court, not in the NCAA selection room. Right now everyone's trying to put together a formula for Big Red to make the NCAA dance. That's the fun of it. But the only formula is to keep winning.
If you want to focus on something, try this: Finish in the top four of the Big Ten and get to the Saturday semifinals of the conference tourney. Anything to separate or stand out from the others. Quality wins are big, but in the end, the committee members have to vote using their opinions, not analytics. Who looks like an NCAA tournament team? Who looks like they'll not only belong but do the committee right by winning? Nebraska has that look right now. Just keep winning and playing well. The Big Ten schedule does provide opportunity to do that.
4. I do think that win will help, perhaps as early as next week at Minnesota, because it was a comeback win on the road for Nebraska. This team has a lot of confidence right now. A different team than 2014, but in that sense, very similar.
