A key Nebraska target is no longer committed elsewhere.
Julius Coates, a defensive end from East Mississippi C.C., announced on social media Friday afternoon he is backing off his verbal pledge to Colorado. The move comes after the 6-foot-6, 275-pound native of Rockford, Illinois, officially visited Nebraska last weekend. Frost also visited Coates on Wednesday.
The Huskers offered Coates a scholarship Nov. 4. He finished with 30 tackles (nine for loss, including six sacks) in 10 games this fall.
Coates is one of multiple pass-rushing juco prospects in play for Nebraska ahead of the Dec. 18 early signing date. Others visiting this weekend include Jordon Riley of Garden City (Kan.), Eteva Mauga-Clements of Diablo Valley (Calif.) and Pheldarius Payne of Lackawanna (Pa.).
