McKenna Ruch records match-high 14 kills as UNO volleyball sweeps St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. — McKenna Ruch turned in her best match of the season as she led UNO to a 25-10, 25-15, 25-17 win at St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon.

The Millard North graduate finished with 14 kills on 22 attacks as she hit .591. Ruch also had four ace serves.

UNO set the tone by scoring eight straight for an 8-1 lead in the opening set. Claire Mountjoy served three aces during that run. Ruch served nine straight for a 12-5 lead in the second set, which included two of her aces.

The Mavs led most of the third set as they had a 19-11 lead before closing out the win. It was UNO's fourth straight sweep.

Shayla McCormick added nine kills and hit .471, while Marriah Buss and Sadie Limback chipped in eight kills each. Sami Clarkson finished with 35 assists and nine digs.

As a team, the Mavs hit .344 while holding St. Thomas to .065.

The win improves the Summit League-leading Mavs to 10-1 in conference play. UNO is off until Oct. 30, when it plays at Denver, which is in second place with a 9-1 mark.
