MACOMB, Ill. — UNO ended the regular season with its third straight win as the Mavericks held off Western Illinois 8-6 Saturday.

UNO never trailed as Masen Prososki and Eduardo Rosario homered in the third inning for a 3-0 lead. The Mavs expanded the lead to 8-2 in the sixth when Mike Boeve delivered a two-run single to left.

Western Illinois chipped away and made it 8-6 after the first three batters reached base in the bottom of the ninth. But UNO then brought in reliever Jackson Gordon, who retired all three batters he faced for his first save this spring.

Mark Timmins worked the first six innings to earn the win, improving to 5-2. Boeve led UNO’s offense with three hits and two RBIs, Rosario had two hits and two RBIs and Prososki added two hits and scored twice.

UNO secured the third seed for the Summit League tournament, which begins Thursday at Anderson Field.

UNO opens against second-seeded North Dakota State at 6 p.m. NDSU won a program-record 20 league games this season. Oral Roberts, the top seed, will face South Dakota State at 1 p.m. SDSU beat Oral Roberts on Saturday to clinch the fourth seed.

The tournament’s championship game will be on May 29.
