Colorado Springs — Johnny Giavotella’s ninth-inning single and 12th-inning home run ensured that Omaha kept its share of the North Division lead with a 4-3 victory over Colorado Springs Sunday night.
With Omaha down 3-2 in the top of the ninth, Terrance Gore pinch ran after a Cheslor Cuthbert leadoff single. A steal and a wild pitch landed Gore at third before Giavotella knotted the game with his RBI single.
Rob Scahill entered to pitch for Colorado Springs (48-74) in the 12th and was greeted by Giavotella’s fifth home run of the season.
Omaha (64-57) hadn’t led since the first inning, when Carlos Peguero drove in his 17th run in his last 15 contests.
The lead swapped hands when Matt McBride smacked a two-run homer in the third, and the Chasers tied the game the following inning on a Cuthbert ground ball.
Casey Coleman earned the win by tossing four scoreless innings, and Louis Coleman got the last three outs to pick up the save.
