SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College tallied 98 points for first place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ volleyball poll.
The Red Raiders garnered eight of 11 first-place votes. Midland, who was picked second with 91 points, received the remaining three first-place votes.
Dordt was picked third with 83 points, while Hastings was fourth with 69 points.
Northwestern won the GPAC regular season with a 16-0 record last fall and posted an overall record of 35-4. Midland took the GPAC tournament title, and finished 37-5.
The NAIA national championships are set for Dec. 2 to 6 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
The 2014 GPAC volleyball season will consist of 16 conference matches with 11 teams competing for the conference crown. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the preseason poll.
