  • 0

National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort on public lands, celebrates 20 years in 2013.

National Public Lands Day is a fee-free day at DeSoto and other federal lands around the country, and volunteers are needed. At DeSoto, volunteers will meet at the visitor center parking lot Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Groups will work from 9 a.m. to noon on projects such as transplanting prairie cord grass, collecting prairie seed, trail maintenance and general refuge cleanup.

Registration is requested, however, equipment will also be available. For more information or to register, call the DeSoto Visitor Center at 712-388-4800.
