EMERSON, Ga. — Senior third baseman Clayton Taylor hit a two-out grand slam to right field in the fifth inning, leading UNO to a 6-5 victory over Morehead State in the second game of a doubleheader at the Perfect Game Spring Swing.

With the Mavericks (4-3) trailing 2-0, Taylor, a graduate of Elkhorn Mount Michael, belted his third home run of the season. The Mavs added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings and held off a two-run Morehead State rally in the ninth.

First baseman Grant Suponchick was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored, and Alex Schultz, Cole Gruber and Jack Kalina each added two hits for the Mavericks.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Eagles (5-2) exploded in a five-run fifth en route to a 14-0 victory. The Eagles totaled 18 hits against three UNO pitchers, and starter Matt Anderson (2-0) struck out eight Mavericks in six innings of work.

Alex Caniglia was the lone bright spot for the Mavericks in the first game, finishing with three of UNO’s five hits.

The Mavericks finish the tournament Sunday at 11 a.m. against Arkansas State.
