Jaiya Patillo, 16, a record-breaking athlete and sophomore at Bellevue West High School, is the epitome of what transpires with discipline, faith and perseverance. As an eight-time national champion and 16-time junior Olympian with 19 impressive titles overall, Jaiya has exemplified an extraordinary path that continues to awe and inspire her community and beyond as she pursues track and field independently and at her school.
“Jaiya has made history as an unattached athlete, earning a National Championship and State Title, all while representing Bellevue West in a way that elevates the school’s visibility on the national stage,” said Kevin Patillo, Jaiya’s father and co-manager.
Like most Olympians, Jaiya’s interest in track and field developed at a young age. She’s been winning national titles since age 9, and at just 12 years old, she was captured in a now viral video sprint training on a treadmill. Her small frame impressively clocked in at 17 miles per hour — a speed that would astonishingly improve over just a few short years.
“The video of her running 17 miles per hour went viral multiple times,” said Kevin. “That video really put her on a larger stage.”
Then in eighth grade at 14 years old, she won her fifth National Championship with no school affiliation, running a 53.87 in the 400m. That time surpassed any school performance in Nebraska high school history.
In her freshman year, Jaiya competed for her high school and ran a 54.66, which broke a 15-year-old Nebraska state record. She also won the State Championship that season.
She recently won her eighth National Championship, which is the top national mark in the USA, all while representing Bellevue West High School.
Jaiya’s long-standing achievements have gained her massive media coverage, including appearances on national television, and have earned her sponsorships from top athleisure brands. She has represented Adidas as an unattached athlete since seventh grade.
As a top-tier model and national brand ambassador, she has gained over 123,000 Instagram followers. She has modeled for brands like Justice and Walmart, and most recently posed during New York Fashion Week at Sony Hall.
Backed by Hollywood support, she has made three appearances on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and was featured on “TMZ” alongside Johnny Knoxville.
Her continued success has even encouraged a forthcoming book titled “Staying in My Lane,” detailing her aspirational journey — and her vision doesn’t stop there.
“Jaiya is training for the World Games 2025 in Tokyo, where she is committed to competing in the Olympic Trials,” said Kevin. “Whether she makes the team or not, she will be there.”
If Jaiya’s followers have learned nothing else, it is that determination and hard work bring forth results.
