Millwork Commons project breathes new life into historic downtown neighborhood

More than 140 years ago, innovative millworkers and furniture makers filled a bustling downtown Omaha. At the turn of the 21st century, businesses were sold or closed, and the historic brick buildings sat empty for years.
Engineering firm Olsson was tasked with using Millwork Commons' rich history to design a creative, welcoming and sustainable space, including the 171-unit Hello Apartments, scheduled to open this summer.
Once an industrial economic hub, Millwork Commons is a 50-acre neighborhood that is breathing new life into downtown Omaha with help from Nebraska engineering firm Olsson.
The $27 million facility will be located just north of downtown Lincoln and will feature eight synthetic turf fields for baseball and softball.
