Linda Odell, the owner of the property, said the deed to her neighbor’s house mentions the historical tree.
In 1856, Charles Childs moved from Springfield, Mo., to Bellevue, where he opened the first sawmill in Nebraska on land just north of what is now Childs Road, so named after the early settler.
